Brandon Flowers returns to practice

San Diego Chargers rookie cornerback Jason Verrett will miss 2-3 weeks after suffering a torn laburm on Thursday Night Football against the Denver Broncos, and it’s possible he could miss even more time than that. On the bright side, the Chargers will be getting an even more important member of their secondary back, as the U-T San Diego’s Michael Gehlken reports that veteran Brandon Flowers has returned to practice today for the first time since suffering his Week 7 concussion against the rival Kansas City Chiefs.

  • Flowers was unable to stick it  to his previous employer, but his excellent play this season has shown that he’s still clearly one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL, which is a designation he once held while in Kansas City. Blessed with elite ball skills, Flowers is as safe as they come in coverage, and he, Verrett, and Eric Weddle, are as good of a secondary trio as you’ll find in this league.

Now that Flowers is back at practice, he should be fully expected to return from his concussion to play against Mike Wallace and the Miami Dolphins this week. His return his definitely huge in lieu of Verrett’s injury, because the Chargers simply can’t afford to miss both players for even just one game.
