San Francisco 49ers star middle linebacker Patrick Willis has had the bye week to rest up, as he missed the team’s embarrassing Week 7 SNF loss to the Denver Broncos with a sprained toe. Willis suffered the injury in a Week 6 win over the rival St. Louis Rams and was never expected to play against the Broncos, but it looks like the additional rest hasn’t made him a lock to play in this week’s rematch with St. Louis.

According to CSN Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco, 49ers defensive coordinator Vic Fangio stated that Willis is “questionable” to play this week, so we’ll have to check back on his practice status tomorrow. Willis isn’t the only important defensive player on the 49ers defense to have his status in doubt for the Rams game, as cornerbacks Chris Culliver and Tramaine Brock are also at risk of being out.
Willis was able to return to practice today, though, so there’s plenty of hope that he’ll be able to play, despite the fact that he’s a lock to be listed questionable on the 49ers official injury report. He’s recorded 34 tackles with a pick and three passes defended this season, and he would give the 49ers defense a massive boost against the Rams and their RBBC of Tre Mason, Zac Stacy, and Benny Cunningham.
