The Tampa Bay Buccaneers reportedly placed former first-round pick Doug Martin on the trading block, and it seemed like he was the Bucs player mired in trade rumors with the best chance of being dealt. Instead, Martin has stayed with the team past the deadline, though the Bucs did jettison a first-round pick from the 2012 NFL Draft, trading safety Mark Barron to the St. Louis Rams. This week, Martin is listed doubtful, though he did shed his walking boot earlier this week and could be back in time for the Week 10 game against the Atlanta Falcons.

  • Rookie running back Charles Sims was compared to Matt Forte by those high on him during the pre-draft process, and Sims brings a really nice all-around skill-set to the table, as he can protect the quarterback and catch passes. Martin was actually praised for his when coming out of Boise State and was a rookie sensation, but, like former Bucs RB LeGarrette Blount, he’s had trouble finding his rookie form following a change in coaching staff.

The Buccaneers coaching staff seems extremely high on Sims, and he’s finally eligible to come off of the short-term injured reserve this week. ESPN’s Adam Caplan reports that we should expect the Bucs to activate him off of the short-term IR by 4 p.m. ET tomorrow, and it will be interesting to see how many touches he gets in his debut. Bobby Rainey is also someone the coaching staff likes, but I have a feeling they are higher on Sims, though he could be eased in since it’s his debut game (and he’s coming off of an injury).
