Giovani Bernard uncertain for Week 10

Cincinnati Bengals running back Giovani Bernard suffered a hip injury last week against the Baltimore Ravens, and even though he should be fine long-term, it looks like Bernard is highly unlikely to play this week against the Jacksonville Jaguars. With A.J. Green looking set to return, the Bengals don’t need Bernard out there against Jacksonville, especially since they have talented and powerful rookie running back Jeremy Hill in the fold.

More from Cincinnati Bengals

According to the Cincinnati Enquirer’s Paul Dehner Jr., Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis was noncommittal when asked if Bernard would be able to play in the Week 10 rivalry matchup against the Cleveland Browns, simply stating, “We’ll see.”

It’s too early to read too much into that, but the fact that he’s noncommittal on Bernard’s Week 10 status means that we shouldn’t expect to see the talented second-year back out there in Week 9 against the Jaguars. He needs the rest anyway, and the Bengals have the added disadvantage of having to face the Browns on a quick turn-around, as they will play on Thursday Night Football in Week 10. It’s not an ideal situation for Bernard to find himself in, and it makes far more sense for the Bengals to just give him some time off.

Update: Giovani Bernard has been ruled out with a hip pointer.
