Houston Texans list Brian Cushing questionable

Houston Texans middle linebacker Brian Cushing was expected to miss at least one game after suffering a knee injury in Week 7 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and he wasn’t able to play last week against the rival Tennessee Titans. It didn’t matter, though, as the Texans cruised to a victory, and Mike Mohamed had a career day at the linebacker position, more than making up for Cushing’s absence against one of the NFL’s worst offenses/teams.

  • According to ESPN NFL Nation’s Tania Ganguli, Cushing is unsurprisingly more optimistic about playing this week against the Philadelphia Eagles, which have a much better offense, especially with Jason Kelce returning to health (the star center had a sports hernia surgery but is probable to play, so he is fully expected to make his return to the lineup this week).

Ganguli reports that the Texans have officially listed Cushing as questionable, and, although Cushing stated that he’s “excited” and feels “a lot better”, he stopped short of saying that he will play against the Eagles. Complicating things is the fact that the Texans bye comes after this game against the Eagles, and Cushing does have an extensive injury history; there’s a case to be made for giving him even more rest.

Cushing has 50 tackles, a sack, and a pass defended this season.
