Week four, vs Kansas City Chiefs (loss)

If everything that went wrong in the Oakland game had gone any worse for Tom Brady, it would look like the Kansas City game. Considering Kansas City’s uber talented defensive front, it was not surprising to see them dominate New England’s offensive line. As would also be expected, the poor protection up front lead to equally poor decisions and throws from Brady.

New England’s offensive line struggled for three reasons. Their names are Justin Houston, Tamba Hali, and Dontari Poe. The trio wreaked havoc and terrorized Tom Brady into a poor performance. New England had what was collectively their worst game of the season, and it seriously effected Brady’s ability.

As was the case in previous weeks, Tom Brady got locked in on his superstars. As opposed to just staring down Rob Gronkowski, Brady was also caught being too scared to look away from a first-read Julian Edelman. No matter which of the two he was focused on, it got Brady into trouble because the coverage was adequate enough considering the efficiency of Kansas City’s pass rush.

Whereas in the Oakland game Tom Brady was able to get away with poor throws into small windows, Kansas City was not so forgiving. Brady’s only two interceptions on the year came against Kansas City. The first was a product of poor field vision, in which Brady failed to see a poaching defensive back over the middle of the field. The second interception was not only a product of Brady staring at a receiver down the left sideline, but also a product hurried mechanics and horrendous placement.

It would be extreme to blame the game on Tom Brady because of the overall failure of the team, including the defense, but he certainly could have played better.
