Green Bay Packers’ T.J. Lang Avoids Ankle Surgery

Green Bay Packers’ starting right guard T.J. Lang received some good news regarding his ankle injury this week, as he will not require surgery.  Heading into their bye week, the Packers will now aim to have Lang return to the lineup in Week 10 against the Chicago Bears, although his timeline has yet to be determined.

Rob Demovsky of ESPN also reports that Lang was seen leaving the stadium in a walking boot following the Green Bay Packers’ Week 8 loss to the New Orleans Saints.  Lang’s injury took place while blocking for an extra point following the Packers’ first drive of the game.

Lang’s position was manned by Lane Taylor for the remainder of the game, a second-year pro out of Oklahoma State.  With J.C. Tretter set to return from the injured reserve/designated to return list prior to their game against the Bears, Mike McCarthy may choose to give him the start if Lang needs another weeks rest.

T.J. Lang will not be alone in the trainer’s room over the next week.  Morgan Burnett, Sam Shields and Datone Jones were all held out of action in Week 8 against the Saints.  QB Aaron Rodgers could also benefit from the down time after tweaking his hamstring, although his injury is not believed to be serious.

The Green Bay Packers may choose to address the T.J. Lang injury with caution as they approach the homestretch of their season and a playoff run.  As the weather turns colder with December nearing, Eddie Lacy and James Starks could start to see more carries, and they will need all the help they can get up front.  Every game is pivotal at this time of the season, though, especially within the division, and this encouraging diagnosis of Lang’s ankle dodges what could have been a serious problem for the Green Bay Packers.
