Richard Sherman wants Seahawks to put heat on Derek Carr
The Seattle Seahawks 4-3 record at the half-way point of the regular season is a disappointment, but they are still one of the best teams in the NFL despite underperforming on offense and not looking as unbeatable on defense. Tomorrow’s game against the Oakland Raiders should be an easy one for the Seahawks, but they aren’t going to take any opponent lightly, especially after they were upset by the rival St. Louis Rams a couple of weeks ago in what was a fluky loss.

Despite the fact that the Raiders have no wins, they do have a couple of bright spots on the team in first and second-round picks Khalil Mack and Derek Carr, who both look like building blocks and franchise players. Seahawks superstar cornerback Richard Sherman is known for slamming some opponents, but there are players, such as Peyton Manning, whom he shows a great deal of respect for.
In his official blog, Sherman wrote that the Seahawks need to put pressure on Carr “from the first snap”, and I see this as a statement of respect from Sherman towards Carr. Maybe he views Carr’s play under pressure as a huge weakness, but I think it’s interesting that he singled out Carr instead of talking about any other player on the Raiders offense. To be fair, there aren’t many other players worth highlighting, and it makes Carr’s upside all the more tantalizing; we can only imagine how good he would be with a legit supporting cast.
Carr has been a bit below-average when it comes to operating under pressure, but he isn’t significantly worse in this regard than most quarterbacks in the league. Michael Bennett and Cliff Avril could cause him some trouble, though, so this is going to be something worth watching tomorrow.
