A.J. Green Injury: Bengals WR will play

Cincinnati Bengals star wide receiver A.J. Green missed the past three games against the Carolina Panthers, Indianapolis Colts, and rival Baltimore Ravens with an aggravated toe injury, but he was always expected to make his return for this week’s easy game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Bengals showed plenty of resiliency by going 2-1 in Green’s absence, and they did an amazing job of bouncing back from a blowout, shutout loss against the Colts to win a close one over the Ravens last week. In their wins, de facto No. 1 receiver Mohamed Sanu shined, and one of the big reasons for their loss against Indianapolis was the play of elite CB Vontae Davis.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported early this morning that A.J. Green will play today against the Jaguars, and I’m sure Bengals fans and fantasy owners are very happy about that. Since the Jags are an easy opponent, Green will have a chance to be eased back into things, though it’s unclear if “eased back” will also have to do with snap count; I tentatively don’t anticipate that happening, since he already missed three games.

Green’s impact on the Bengals offense is undoubtedly profound, so he’ll also help the players around him. I want to see if Sanu’s role expands following his solid play in Green’s absence, but it’s clear that the Bengals No. 1 wide receiver will always “get his”.
