Dallas Cowboys star quarterback Tony Romo is set to miss today’s game against the Arizona Cardinals, as he suffered two fractured transverse processes in last week’s loss to the Washington Redskins. It would make more sense for the Cowboys to hold him out this week instead of playing him, and I highly doubt he’s in any playing shape right now. Jason Garrett and the Cowboys organization also seem to have supreme confidence in backup quarterback Brandon Weeden, who would be the better option anyway if Romo is dealing with too much pain.

The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that Romo will not play today, and he adds that the top-ten QB might not travel to London with his teammates to face the Jacksonville Jaguars. In all honesty, the Jaguars are such an inferior opponent that the Cowboys don’t need Romo out there, and the drain of a London game just isn’t worth it for him.
If the Cowboys hold him out of next week’s game against the Jaguars, he will get an extra week of rest through the bye before facing the rival New York Giants. That seems like a great set-up to me, and I would feel full confidence in starting Weeden for another game if he can play decently well against the Cardinals defense.
