Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has two small fractured transverse processes in his back, and many have pointed out that this is a similar injury to the one Baylor Bears QB Bryce Petty suffered this season. Petty only missed one game, but he also doesn’t have long-term back issues like Romo. Most people have expected the Cowboys to let Romo sit this one out, and there are a few people who believe that Brandon Weeden could be the better option anyway if Romo is dealing with too much pain.

Per a source close to the NFL Network’s Desmond Purnell, the Cowboys will hold Romo out of today’s big game against the Arizona Cardinals, and Purnell reports that he has a “better chance” of playing in next week’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, which doesn’t come as a surprise. The Jaguars are such an easy opponent that the Cowboys could easily start Weeden without playing much worse, so it will be interesting to see how Romo progresses.
It’s good to hear that Dr. Jerry Jones is reportedly going to do the most prudent thing for his team, because it’s clear that losing Romo for the more critical parts of the season would be devastating. They simply can’t run the risk of an aggravation, and that’s a possible issue that is all too real at this point.
