Jadeveon Clowney, Jason Pierre-Paul Injury Updates

Houston Texans pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney has reportedly frustrated the organization, and it sounds like the Texans are questioning the No. 1 overall pick’s toughness and ability to fight through significant injuries. Clowney missed several weeks after tearing his meniscus in Week 1, and the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that the Texans have questioned Clowney’s maturity and believe he should have returned sooner.

I’m not one to question Clowney’s toughness, because I’m not privy to any info that would allow me to speak with confidence on the subject. What I can say is that Clowney could miss today’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles with an illness, and the NFL Network’s Stacey Dales reports that he had a “bug” on Thursday and Friday but was not contagious and returned to the Texans facilities yesterday. Per Dales, Clowney is a true toss-up against the Eagles as a game-time decision.

It will be interesting to see if the Texans leaked info to Rapoport in order to light a fire under Clowney and get him to play, or if it was in response to Clowney not being ready to play. Clowney was initially expected to miss today’s game, but I wonder if this morning’s report could change things. That’s just clear speculation on my part, though.

New York Giants star defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul is playing some high quality football this season, as he has been his usual, elite self in run defense and has been a consistent menace and disruptive force as a pass rusher. JPP was a late addition to the injury report yesterday after not practicing due to a shoulder injury, and any word of a shoulder injury to Pierre-Paul causes some concern.

However, JPP was only listed probable on the injury report by the Giants, and Pro Football Talk’s Josh Alper reports that he is expected to play in tomorrow’s big game against the Indianapolis Colts.
