Dez Bryant willing to negotiate during season

Dallas Cowboys elite wide receiver Dez Bryant is scheduled to make a huge sum of money due to his expiring contract, but it looks like he could sacrifice his earning potential in order to get a deal done sooner. Bryant fired former agent Eugene Parker and hired Jay-Z’s Roc Nation, and that’s due to his desire to get a new deal done with the Cowboys sooner rather than later.

More from Dallas Cowboys

ESPN Dallas’s Tim MacMahon reports that Bryant is willing to negotiate with the Cowboy during the regular season, and this is way different from his previous approach, which was to table negotiations until after the season. Working out an in-season deal can become a distraction, but I don’t think that will ultimately prove to be a problem with Bryant, who is doing work. He had a poor statistical day against the Arizona Cardinals yesterday thanks to a completely ineffective performance from backup QB Brandon Weeden, but the star still showed off his quality by beating Patrick Peterson for a TD.

MacMahon reports that Bryant is looking to get around $13 million per season, and it will be interesting to see if he’s able to get that. Either way, he’s going to be one of the highest-paid receivers in the NFL once his deal is complete, and there’s little argument that he is one of the best wide receivers out there. The Cowboys could always franchise him if things don’t progress, but I have a feeling both sides will strike a deal; Bryant is more of a priority to re-sign than DeMarco Murray, even if Murray has been even more impressive this year.
