Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles went down with a clavicle injury in the second quarter of yesterday’s 31-21 win over the Houston Texans after taking a sack from young edge rusher Whitney Mercilus. Foles is tentatively expected to miss 4-6 weeks with the injury, though that timeline could fluctuate. Backup quarterback Mark Sanchez came into the game and finished with an average of 9.2 yards per attempt, two touchdowns, and two interceptions.

The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that Eagles head coach Chip Kelly stated that Foles has a “crack” in his clavicle, adding that the team’s franchise quarterback had an MRI on his shoulder earlier in the day. We won’t know the extent of the injury until the results from the MRI come in, but it’s safe to say that he’s going to be out for a significant amount of time.
Meanwhile, Kelly has been busy praising Sanchez for his efforts, and Sanchez has a big chance to prove to other teams around the league that he isn’t a complete bust. This is a golden opportunity for him to make a statement, because he has plenty of talent around him in the likes of Jeremy Maclin, Jordan Matthews, LeSean McCoy, Zach Ertz, Darren Sproles, Jason Peters, and Jason Kelce.
Before being injured, Nick Foles completed 10 of 13 passes, though he has completed less than 60% of his passes in what has been a pretty disappointing season from the 2013 breakout QB.
