Kyle Rudolph on Adrian Peterson: ‘We’d be crazy not to welcome him back’

facebooktwitterreddit

Earlier today, Pro Football Talk reported that Minnesota Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson “will plead no contest to one count of misdemeanor reckless assault”, and PFT reports that the plea will not reference violence against a minor or family member. If AP’s plea is accepted, he will have to pay a fine and be subject to community service, but he could be immediately reinstated by the league. AP has missed eight games this season, though he has still been receiving checks, and the NFL could view that as time served and not impose a suspension on top of that time missed.

  • Although it once seemed like the Vikings would never get Peterson back, it’s possible (though it is, of course, uncertain at this point) that he could return to the team at some point this season. If that’s the case, then it sounds like his some of his teammates would welcome him back with open arms.

According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune’s Matt Vensel, tight end Kyle Rudolph, fullback and ace lead-blocker Jerome Felton, and veteran linebacker and locker room leader Chad Greenway stated that the Vikings players would welcome Peterson back to the locker room if he does return this year.

Per ESPN NFL Nation’s Ben Goessling, Rudolph said, “We’d be crazy not to welcome him back.”

That’s some strong support from Rudolph.

It sounds like Peterson won’t have any issues with his teammates once he comes back, and Felton and Greenway are two important voices on the team. However, I’m sure plenty of fans will be upset if AP returns to the team this season, and he’ll surely be a magnet for intense controversy if he does end up getting reinstated in 2014.
