Green Bay Packers sign Jamon Meredith, downgrade Morgan Burnett
The Green Bay Packers absolutely destroyed the rival Chicago Bears earlier this season, and Randal Cobb’s ridiculous move on Chris Conte in the end zone that led to an easy, short touchdown reception encapsulated just how easy of a win this was for the Packers. Aaron Rodgers nailed some amazing throws to torch a dreadful Bears secondary, whereas Jay Cutler made too many rash decisions against his biggest rivals, as the Packers improved pass defense took advantage of his errors. With the Bears sliding, the Packers are expected to take the season sweep, though nothing is guaranteed in a rivalry as heated as this one, which some say is the NFL’s best intra-division rivalry.

According to Pete Dougherty of the Green Bay Press-Gazette, the Packers have officially announced the signing of guard/tackle Jamon Meredith, who has been bounced around lately. The Indianapolis Colts cut ties with him earlier this week after picking him up as necessary depth in September. Meredith previously played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but they unsurprisingly got rid of him after a disastrous preseason. He will give the Packers some depth and versatility as a utility backup, but they aren’t going to be faced with playing him. As Dougherty notes, the Packers were the ones who originally drafted him, but that doesn’t really change how he’ll impact the team as a short-term backup.
Per ESPN Wisconsin’s Jason Wilde, the Packers have downgraded veteran safety Morgan Burnett from probable to questionable, and Wilde believes that it indicates that Burnett aggravated a calf injury. He should be tentatively expected to be ruled inactive against the Bears, but it sounds like he’ll be a truly questionable game-time decision tomorrow.
