New York Jets vs Pittsburgh Steelers
Where: MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ
When: 1 PM, Sunday, November 9, 2014
Watch: CBS
Betting Line: Pittsburgh -4, O/U 46.5
The New York Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers are headed in two opposite directions. New York (1-8) will likely be in the mix for the first overall pick in April/May’s 2015 NFL Draft, while Pittsburgh (6-3) have won four of their last five games. Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has thrown for an astounding 862 yards, in addition to twelve touchdown passes, in the team’s last two games. To say that Roethlisberger and the rest of the Steelers are flying high heading into Week 10 would be an understatement.
Gang Green are in a downward spiral at this stage of the season, having lost eight straight games. Despite boasting the third best rushing attack in the NFL, the New York Jets rank last in passing yards per game. Rex Ryan’s defense, despite playing several no-name players in the secondary, have done an admirable job, but can’t make up for the team’s offensive deficiencies.
At this point, the Jets are playing for pride, as well as attempting to save Ryan’s job as head coach. It doesn’t seem likely that he’ll be back in 2015, but we’re talking about one of the most unpredictable teams in the National Football League, so I suppose that anything is possible.
Prediction:
Realistically, the only way the New York Jets will win on Sunday is if Pittsburgh beats themselves. The Steelers are a far better team than the Jets, and are competing for a divisional title in the AFC North. Michael Vick and the New York offense looked slightly improved in Week 9 against the Kansas City Chiefs, but I don’t see them competing with Pittsburgh. It’s clear that Mike Tomlin’s team can score points, and the Jets simply can’t do that. The score may be close for about a quarter or so, but I fully expect Ben Roethlisberger to light up to the New York secondary, en route to victory.
