Seattle Seahawks activate Jeremy Lane
Seattle Seahawks slot cornerback Jeremy Lane was a quiet breakout star during the end of last season, as he filled in admirably in the slot for Walter Thurmond and is probably an even better player than the current New York Giants CB, who suffered a season-ending injury early in the year. Lane’s injury wasn’t season-ending, and his return makes the Seahawks secondary even stronger.

According to Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times, the Seahawks have officially activated Lane from the short-term injured reserve today, as he was on the short-term IR since Week 1 after suffering a significant groin injury in the team’s easy win over the Green Bay Packers. The Seahawks had enough depth in the secondary to make do without him, but Lane was clearly missed, and his return to the lineup ahead of tomorrow’s game against the New York Giants will be huge for this defense.
Eli Manning and the Giants offense have struggled again lately, and they won’t have workhorse back Rashad Jennings back yet to help alleviate pressure off of the passing attack. That said, rookie wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has been fantastic, as he has clearly met lofty expectations, even showing off his elite hands by making difficult one-handed catches in pre-game warm-ups look ho-hum. OBJ’s ability to dominate out of the slot would have tested the Seahawks had Lane been out, but he can help quiet Beckham. I’ve always been a big fan of Lane’s, and I fully expect him to play tomorrow upon activation; he should be fully healthy now, as he was always expected to return this week.
