Tony Romo succeeds despite injury, Dez Bryant makes case for contract

The Dallas Cowboys will head into their bye week on a high note, as they dominated the Jaguars in the last game of the International series. Dez Bryant said in his post game press conference that they ” took care of business” and that is precisely what they did.  The Cowboys outplayed the Jags in all three aspects of the game, and put themselves in a good position to make a run for the division title.

Tony Romo´s return was a major factor in breaking the two game losing streak the Cowboys were on. Romo looked  like his old self, while carving up the Jacksonville defense. It started off a bit shaky, when he missed a wide open Jason Witten for what would have been a touchdown, but after that he was lights out and ended with a passer rating of 138.8 and 3 TDs.

More from Dallas Cowboys

After the game, Romo said ” he felt a bit sore”, which is to be expected after a few broken bones. The bye week does come at a perfect time for Romo, as he can use it to rest and get completely healthy for the rest of the season. Romo can also thank his offensive line for keeping him upright most of the game(1 sack), against a Jaguar defense that has the third most sacks of any defense this  year.

What was surprising was that Romo was kept in the game until the middle of the fourth quarter despite having a 24 point lead. That simply is an unnecessary risk, that the Cowboys took on Sunday, and Romo did end up getting hit hard and was slow to get up. He should be back to his normal health by the Giants game, two weeks from now, and hopefully he can stay healthy for the rest of the year.

The player of the game was Dez Bryant who had a monster second quarter. Dez had 6 catches on 8 targets for 158 yards and 2 touchdowns. He had all 6 catches in the second quarter and he took full advantage  of those. His first touchdown was an amazing catch and run for 35 yards and then Romo hit him on a Go route for a 68 yard touchdown to complete his great day. With his big plays, Bryant continues to illustrate why he deserves a long-term deal with  the Cowboys with a lot of guaranteed money. Bryant himself seemed very pleased with his performance as well, saying that he is just going to continue being ” the great man that I am.”

Bryant has been one of the most consistent wide receivers in the league over the last three years, and he deserves to be paid like one. Off-the-field issues are a concern, but he seems to be maturing and staying out of trouble. If the Cowboys are smart, they pay him instead of possibly frustrating him with a Franchise tag this offseason.
