St. Louis Rams Should Have Stuck With Austin Davis
By Ernie Padaon
The St. Louis Rams are going to give the ball back to Shaun Hill to be the starter for the team this weekend against the Denver Broncos. Jeff Fisher wants to give the ball to the veteran. The mistakes that Davis made in the 4th quarter against the Cardinals has put him on the bench. So much for taking your lumps and letting them learn from it.
Fisher wants to give the ball to Hill. Hill was the starter earlier in the season when Sam Bradford went down with his season ending knee injury. Hill then suffered an injury in the first week in the season and gave an opportunity to Austin Davis to perform. Davis showed some nice flashes in his time and was allowed to continue playing. He has shown some flashes in his time on the field, but the critical mistakes that he made were too much to overlook. Fisher wants to go with the vet and will hope that Hill will not make those same type of mistakes.
With the Rams at 3-6, the team should be looking toward the future at the position. They should take all the time that they can to evaluate Austin Davis and let him finish out the season as the starter. Will the team really consider Shaun Hill to be the starter next year? This team will either rely on Austin or they will go with some other free agent or draft pick.
The team is not giving up hope on the season though and will get the ball to the vet. Let him ride it out, but once the season slips out of reach, they might as well bring back Austin to close it all out.
