Dallas Cowboys superstar wide receiver Dez Bryant continues to show why he deserves a massive contract in the offseason, and he has to be the biggest priority for the Cowboys, even with star running back DeMarco Murray also scheduled to hit the free-agent waters. Bryant tossed aside a negative leak on Sunday, as he roasted the Jacksonville Jaguars burn-prone secondary with 158 receiving yards on six receptions an two TDs. It seems like Bryant wants to get a deal done sooner rather than later, and that was cited as the main reason for his decision to switch agencies to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation.
Bryant will come at a hefty price for the Cowboys, who obviously have plenty of financial commitments on their hands, but he’s arguably their second-most important player. At just 26, he’s easily one of the best, young receivers in the game and has 56 receptions for 793 yards and eight touchdowns this season to prove it.
The NFL Network’s Desmond Purnell reports that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones stated he has talked to Roc Nation, but it’s unclear how much Jones and Bryant’s agency spoke about a potential deal. It’s unlikely that actual negotiations took place, but maybe some numbers were traded. Jones stated that he wants to keep Bryant with the team for the rest of the star player’s career, and that much is clear. What’s also clear is that Bryant will make bank no matter what happens, so he holds plenty of leverage here.
