C.J. Anderson will start today

Denver Broncos second-year pro Montee Ball was Wally Pipped by Ronnie Hillman, and it looks like C.J. Anderson has done the same to Hillman after blowing up against the Oakland Raiders easy defense last week. Ball is back in the fold after being given an extra week of practice, and both he and Anderson will lead the Broncos rushing attack with some help from rookie Juwan Thompson, as Hillman is out for another week after receiving an initial timetable of about two or three weeks.

More from Denver Broncos

According to the Denver Post’s Mike Klis, the Broncos will indeed give Anderson the start today against the St. Louis Rams, and this news shouldn’t come as a surprise. Ball is worth monitoring, as he was supposed to be a breakout star for the team this season after seizing the feature back role following Knowshon Moreno’s departure, but it looks like Anderson could prove to be that guy. Hillman played well in Ball’s absence, but he did slip in the two weeks prior to sustaining his injury.

Anderson has plenty of upside, and he put up 90 rushing yards on 13 carries with four receptions for 73 yards and a touchdown. It was his success as a pass-catcher that might be just as promising for the Broncos, because they love it when Peyton Manning has a real threat out of the backfield in the passing game. Anderson could prove to be that guy, so we’ll keep a close eye on what he’s able to do today against the Rams.
