Ronnie Hillman could miss up to six weeks

The Denver Broncos will start potential breakout running back C.J. Anderson today, as he was dominant on the ground and through the air in last week’s blowout win over the rival Oakland Raiders. Montee Ball is also active after getting an extra week of practice, but Ronnie Hillman, who might be Wally Pipped by Anderson after evidently Wally Pipping Ball, is inactive this week with a foot injury that he suffered last week. Anderson came right in and starred for the Broncos, though it is important to note that Hillman played at a high level in Ball’s absence before the well-rounded back’s play slipped a bit.

More from Denver Broncos

Hillman foot injury is reported a mid-foot sprain, and Broncos head coach John Fox’s attempts to downplay the severity of the injury haven’t exactly worked. In fact, while Hillman’s initial timetable was set at around two- or three- weeks, it looks like there exists the potential for the young RB to miss several more weeks than that.

Per sources close to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Hillman could miss up to six weeks with his foot injury, which would give Anderson or Ball plenty of time to claim the feature back role and leave Hillman hanging out as the No. 2 or 3 option. The Broncos have a huge amount of depth in the backfield with three legit options that all have upside, so it will be interesting to see if one of them can emerge as a clear No. 1 option; this week it’s Anderson’s turn to prove that he isn’t just a flash in the pan.
