The Indianapolis Colts have no shortage of talent at the wide receiver position, but it looks like they have their eyes set on another young physical specimen to add to a wide receiver crops that includes the top-notch T.Y. Hilton and impressive rookie Donte Moncrief. Reggie Wayne continues to show that he’s a solid possession receiver even at this age, though Hakeem Nicks has been terrible in his lone season with the Colts and hasn’t proven anything on his prove-it deal this year.
CBS Sports’s Jason La Canfora reports that the Colts have “significant” interest in CFL star Duron Carter, who has unquestionable talent but also has plenty of red flags due to immaturity issues. He was kicked off of multiple teams in college before going undrafted, but it sounds like he has cleaned up his act and has been a revelation in the CFL for Montreal, helping them get to the playoffs. Carter can be a high-impact wide receiver in the NFL, and he’s exactly the kind of young player that Jim Irsay and Ryan Grigson would love to roll the dice on.
La Canfora reports that the Colts aren’t the only team interested in acquiring him, as the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers could also end up showing interest (Carter would be a nice flier for the Seahawks). Although he cannot sign for a team until after the season, he can, per La Canfora, start negotiations and workouts on December 1st.
