Marshawn Lynch, Seattle Seahawks still expected to part ways
Earlier this season, it was reported that the Seattle Seahawks would cut ties with Marshawn Lynch this offseason, and this report was met with a wide variety of reactions. Lynch is the focal point of the team’s offense, and he’s easily one of the most talented running backs in the game; it’s hard to see how the Seahawks can afford to get rid of him. That seemed evident last week against the New York Giants, as he ran for 140 yards and four touchdowns. But others believe that Lynch’s attitude makes him a problem, and they also think the Seahawks can find a younger running back who is just as good in the first-round of the draft. Todd Gurley and Melvin Gordon are two popular backs in this upcoming draft’s loaded class at the position, which will bring back the first-round running back. Gurley is a beast and looks like a tailor-made replacement for Lynch.

With the way the Seahawks play has been mirroring Lynch’s play, you would think that the Seahawks would change their tune about wanting to get rid of Lynch. But the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that “The short answer is yes” when it comes to the team still wanting to part ways with their feature back. Per Rapoport, the teams plans haven’t changed, and he says that this info is based on conversations with “people involved in the situation”.
Like the Percy Harvin situation, I wonder how much more there is to the Seahawks unwillingness to keep their 28-year-old RB around. Lynch has been crucial to the team’s success, so it is a risky endeavor to try and replace him. It also sounds like they have faith in Christine Michael, who was raw but explosive coming out of Texas A&M and generated plenty of buzz this past offseason.
