Alshon Jeffery takes a screen in for six with help from Brandon Marshall

The Chicago Bears have jumped out to an early lead on the rival Detroit Lions, who are looking to avoid losing three straight games after putting up two anemic offensive performances against the elite secondaries of the Arizona Cardinals and New England Patriots. Although the Bears defensive backfield is far from elite, the Lions went three-and-out after losing a yard, and their rivals turned a stout first series on defense into points on the offensive side of the ball.

Alshon Jeffery took a screen pass from Jay Cutler after being bunched next to fellow stud WR Brandon Marshall on the left side. It was a perfectly drawn-up and executed play, as Jeffery managed to get into the end zone. The real hero of the play was Marshall, who did an incredible job of paving the way for Jeffery’s TD. As we saw last season, there isn’t a better blocking wide receiver than Marshall in the NFL right now, though the likes of Lions star Golden Tate are close.

Jay Cutler went a crisp 5-6 for 55 yards, averaging 9.2 yards per attempt on that opening drive with completions to Matt Forte, Martellus Bennett, Marshall, and two to Jeffery.
