Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles is expected to receive clearance from his broken collarbone injury in about 1-3 weeks, as he’s been making a nice recovery ever since going down with the injury in Week 9 against the Houston Texans. Mark Sanchez has done a noticeably better job of moving the Eagles high-powered offense ever since taking over for Foles, so the Arizona product will probably be fully Wally Pipped by the time he’s cleared. That said, I don’t know many people who fully trust Sanchez, because while the Eagles offensive set-up is foolproof with all of the talent surrounding the quarterback, the former USC star is known for his propensity to make the ugly pick.
According to the Eagles official Twitter account, head coach Chip Kelly stated that Foles’s collarbone is not “totally healed” yet, so they have not cleared their quarterback yet. Per Kelly, Foles had another test done, and you get the feeling that he is very close to getting back on the field. When Foles does return, there will probably be only one or two games left in the season, so it might not even be worth yanking Sanchez and re-assimilating Foles into the starting lineup. That said, it’s always good to have Foles as insurance, because, again, I don’t trust Sanchez fully.
Before the injury, Foles averaged 270 yards per game but also had ten interceptions and a completion percentage under 60%. He isn’t a bad quarterback, but Sanchez deserves to continue to maintain the starting gig once Foles returns.
