Andre Johnson treats kids to a shopping spree of their lives
By Ernie Padaon
To prep for the Christmas season, Houston Texans WR Andre Johnson treated some kids to a holiday shopping spree at their favorite store, Toys’R’Us. He took some kids from child protective services to Toys’R’Us and let them run wild and free throughout the store. They were given 80 seconds to grab whatever they wanted off of the shelves and Johnson would take that bill and pay it off for them. I remember being a kid and wanting to do that so bad!
If I were given that chance as an adult, I would be at the gaming consoles filling up my cart with them and then hitting up eBay right after to pocket some dough. I guess that is why they chose to give this opportunity to kids instead.
Check out some of the images from the day:
What an amazing gesture by Andre Johnson to get these kids out and blessing them with some Christmas cheer. 80 seconds doesn’t sound like the longest time, but it was enough time for 11 kids to rack up a bill of over $16k.
OUCH! That is one expensive Christmas list that Johnson just paid off, but the memories that these kids are going to have for the rest of their lives is going to be well worth it. I love when athletes make the news for stories like this instead of the violence and abuse that make the front page for everyone else to see.
I am stoked that Johnson was able to do this for the kids. I love that he is able to spread the love around to the community.
Johnson is not having his best season this year, but he still has solid numbers. He currently has 720 yards receiving and 2 touchdowns and will need to have a couple of good games in order to surpass that 1000+ yard mark that he has done so often in his career. The Houston Texans are in the hunt with their 6-6 record, but the AFC has a ton of teams battling it out for the playoffs at this point. The Texans are currently on the outside looking in.
