Should Chicago Bears Consider Starting Jimmy Clausen?

Should the Chicago Bears consider starting Jimmy Clausen for the final 3 games of the season? Would it really hurt anything?

The Bears season is pretty much over with 3 games remaining on the schedule and starting QB Jay Cutler has struggled in a bad way this year. He leads the league in turnovers and has led the team to a 5-8 record. Still head coach Mark Trestman continues to rely on Jay as his QB:

"“Jay [Cutler] is our quarterback,” Trestman said. “If he’s available to play, he’s going to play. Jimmy is continuing to work in the offense, and he practices. We certainly like having him on our football team, but as we get ready for New Orleans next week, Jay will get the reps and he’ll be playing.”"

Head Coach Trestman has always stood by Jay as his starting quarterback. Even last year during the quarterback controversy that built up with Josh McCown, he has never wavered from Jay as the starter. He is not wavering again. He will be giving the ball to Jay Cutler as long as he is healthy.

Jay signed a 7-year deal in January for $126.7 million. He hasn’t done much for the team since signing that deal, but the team has to keep giving him the opportunity to play. They are paying for him to get out there. All that money invested in him, they have to spend the time on getting him to play at a top level. If that means that they have to keep trotting him onto the field as a starter in meaningless games, than that is what they have to do.

They are going to keep riding Jay. At some point, Jay will have to start producing, but this early into his contract, they have to keep trusting that he will turn things around.
