Arizona Cardinals Leaning toward starting QB Logan Thomas

The Arizona Cardinals are leaning on starting rookie QB Logan Thomas to run the team on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers. The Cardinals have been hurting at quarterback all year and have already had to start 3 different players at the position.

Starting quarterback Drew Stanton is battling back from a knee injury and has been listed as day-to-day. The team needs him to be ready for the playoffs if they want any chance to win. They likely don’t want to risk the injury in the game on Sunday. They would rather have him ready for the playoffs.

Backup QB Ryan Lindley was inefficient in his outing against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday Night. He only was able to lead the team to 6 points and he only completed 41% of his passes for 216 yards and an interception. The team struggled to move the ball on offense only picking up 216 total net yards in the game.

That is why the Cardinals are looking at the possible change. The team will be hoping for a spark against the San Francisco 49ers. They will be looking for a playmaker to step up and Thomas could get his chance.

Thomas has thrown 9 passes in his career in the NFL and only has completed one. It was an 81 yard bomb for a touchdown. It is time to see what kind of potential the kid can bring at the position. He was taken in the 4th round of the draft and many people believed that he would be a project. He had all the tools to be a good quarterback, but people wondered if he could stay consistent.

Here is what Mike Mayock said on Thomas during the draft:

"“He’s got 25 or 30 (game) tapes out there. Twenty-three of them are bad,” NFL Media draft analyst Mike Mayock said of Thomas coming out of the draft."

Some people believed that Thomas would be best used as a tight end in the NFL. That is not what the Cards are looking to do with him.

We will get our chance to see him as a quarterback in a game that will determine the team’s path in the playoffs. There are 5 teams in the NFC that have 11 wins. Only 2 of those teams will get a BYE week in the playoffs. If the Seahawks were to lose this weekend and the Cardinals win, the Cards would get to host their first game. This weekend’s game will be key.

The Cardinals will be hoping that Drew Stanton will be ready to go for the playoffs. Stanton has started for the Cardinals in 8 games this season and has a 5-3 record. He is far from a superstar quarterback, but he has been consistent and has found ways to win. He will be the best chance for the Cardinals to win.
