6. Russell Wilson, Seattle Seahawks
Wilson has been nothing short of incredible this year. No, he doesn’t have to throw for 300 yards and 3 touchdowns every game for Seattle to win (in fact, he rarely does), but the way he has played the game for such a young player is extremely impressive. He makes Fran Tarkenton-like plays seemingly every game. His passes are usually accurate and the touch passes he throws are on point.
The “too short to play quarterback” narrative has clearly been rewritten, as Wilson has already won a Super Bowl. He ranks in the middle of the pack among playoff quarterbacks, but because he has such a great team around him, he doesn’t need to be exceptionally prolific to win, and that was shown clearly in Seattle’s Super Bowl run last year.
5. Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh Steelers
Stomach virus or not, Roethlisberger is a proven winner in the playoffs. He’s had a terrific regular season, perhaps the best of his career. Yes, his offensive line is exceptional, Le’Veon Bell has been lights out lately, and Antonio Brown is statistically the best receiver in football, but none of that should take away from the season Roethlisberger is having.
Steelers fans should be confident in Roethlisberger for the playoffs, as he’s been there before and is playing some of the best football of his career. He’s not the Roethlisberger of 2008, but he’s still playing at a high level. He’s easily among the top half of quarterbacks in the playoffs.
