Denver Broncos Adam Gase to meet with 49ers, Falcons, Bears

Denver Broncos’ offensive coordinator Adam Gase will reportedly interview with the San Francisco 49ers and the Atlanta Falcons on Friday in Denver and will meet with the Chicago Bears on Saturday.

Last year, Gase turned down an opportunity to interview with the Cleveland Browns — he wanted to focus on Denver’s playoff run. This year is obviously different as Gase will be interviewing with teams before the postseason for the Broncos begins.

There is some doubt about Gase as a head coach, and it stems from the fact that his name may have been given excessive praise because he works closely with Peyton Manning (Manning and co. displayed the most prolific in the history of the game in 2013, with Gase as the coordinator).

This may be true, but the 49ers, Falcons, or Bears won’t find out if they don’t hire him. Even if Gase has benefitted more from Manning than vice versa, Gase can bring that knowledge to whichever team ends up hiring him. It’s tough to judge Gase as an offensive coordinator, since any offense with Manning will excel. It seems as if Manning changes Gase’s play call at the line of scrimmage almost every play — he’s always adjusting and calling audibles, so it’s difficult to tell if Gase is actually a good play caller or not. Gase is only 36 and had been the Broncos’ wide receivers coach and quarterbacks coach before becoming offensive coordinator when Mike McCoy left to take the San Diego Chargers’ job.

The Denver Broncos will host a divisional round playoff game (opponent TBD) on Sunday, January 11 at 4:40 p.m. E.T.
