If the Jets aren’t going to upgrade the quarterback position in the first round, then they at least need to provide protection for the team’s signal-caller in 2015. In 2014, New York conceded 47 sacks as a unit, tied for eighth worst in the league. Iowa’s Scherff would allow be a great value pick for the Jets at number six. He was a three-year starter at left tackle for the Hawkeyes.

As a sophomore, Scherff replaced former Hawkeyes left tackle, Riley Reiff, now on the Detroit Lions. Scherff has been a highly regarded offensive line prospect since his junior year at Iowa. By bringing in Scherff, the Jets could potentially groom him to eventually replace Pro Bowl caliber left tackle D’Brickishaw Ferguson. He would fill in as a solid force at right tackle immediately, making New York’s offensive line one of the league’s best.
