2. Marcus Peters Washington cornerback
This would be a surprising pick for the Jets, but Peters is absolutely talented enough to go early in Round 1. A recent BleacherReport mock draft called Peters “the most talented cover corner in the draft.” While Peters certainly has his short-comings, such as his November dismissal from his Washington Huskies squad, he is still an unbelievable talent. There’s no question that New York needs help in the secondary, with Dee Milliner and Marcus Smith the current projected starting duo in 2015.
Peters is a strong, physical corner, which would definitely give the Jets an edge on the back end of their defense. We already know that safety Calvin Pryor to level the hammer on players, so assuming he progresses over the offseason as well, Gang Green’s secondary has the potential to be exciting next season. The former Huskies star would provide immediate competition during training camp, and could very well start this September, given the team’s current need at cornerback.
