This season, the Chargers were denied a seat at the NFL Playoff Table despite an 8-4 record after 13 games. And even though they failed to make the playoffs, there was a lot for the Chargers to celebrate in 2014. From Rivers to Gates, there were many Chargers players who definitely deserve recognition for their outstanding play.

Most of my selections in this article rival those of the team, however there are many picks which were not listed by the Bolts in their 2014 award recognitions.
Comeback Player of the Year: WR Malcom Floyd
After suffering a nearly career-ending neck injury in 2013, Floyd rebounded like nobody saw coming. In 2014, he lead the Chargers in yards per catch (16.5), receiving yards (856) and longest reception (59-yarder). In terms of receivers, Floyd definitely was the most improved Charger receiver in that he came back from a career-threatening injury and lead the Bolts in receiving yardage.
Floyd is the undisputed Comeback Player of the Year is because of the intensity/ambiguity of his injury and because of his team-leading production. Not only did he play after an injury, but he had one of the best seasons of his career. He tied his career high in yardage (856) as well as touchdowns (6). His 52 receptions this season rank second all-time in Floyd’s career.
To be as dominant as he was after such a dangerous injury proves that he is worth this award. Sure, players did come back from lack-luster seasons and poor prior season performance, but Floyd produced after injury and is the reason for the recognition as the San Diego Chargers 2014 Comeback Player of the Year.
