1. Re-sign Randall Cobb
The Green Bay Packers must re-sign WR Randall Cobb this offseason. This is not a matter of “maybe”. Coming off a career season with 91 receptions, 1,287 yards and 12 TD, it would be a crippling blow to the Packers offense to lose his unique talents.
Cobb developed into an elite receiver during 2014 and became much more impactful playing out wide. Keeping him in the fold with Jordy Nelson and Davante Adams is vital because losing Cobb would leave Green Bay with just two wide receivers on their roster who saw any significant playing time in 2014. Replacing that production through free agency is not Green Bay’s style, and replacing it through the draft would take a great deal of patience.
Jordy Nelson’s 4-year, $39M contract could be in the ballpark of what Cobb seeks, but given the potential of future production and his age (25), he’s due to strike it rich with this next contract. The versatility that he brings to Green Bay with his receiving, return skills and ability to line up in the backfield cannot be replaced with one other player. With Aaron Rodgers still in his prime, it is time to surround him with weapons, not take them away.
