6.  Continue building defensive line depth.

Green Bay’s shift away from 335lb behemoths to taller, more athletic linemen did not begin smoothly, but by the end of the 2014 season the defensive front was clicking.  The pass rush was becoming more consistent due to a cumulative group effort, which alleviated the strain put on Clay Matthews and Julius Peppers to provide pressure from the edges.

Mike Daniels emerged as one of the league’s most underrated linemen this season, built like a fire hydrant with a motor that does not quit.  Datone Jones still hasn’t lived up to his potential, but he flashed his unique physical abilities in the last month of the season as well.

While the nose tackle position is a question mark entering 2015, it’s important that Green Bay continues to flood their defensive front with young talent.  The most effective defensive units are strong across the entire front seven and can produce a pass rush from anywhere.  When the offense can target the same pass rusher on each play, their impact is negated.

Players like Nick Perry and Mike Neal chipped in as well from outside linebacker and defensive end, and I expect Ted Thompson to add two or more players at those positions in the draft and free agency.  Not only will this provide depth, it will give Dom Capers a steady rotation of fresh legs and pass rushing talent to play with in 2015.
