Which Won More Individual Awards?

I determined that looking solely at Super Bowl championships and statistics in those games doesn’t adequately determine which quarterback was greater. So, I looked at individual awards. Which quarterback was more decorated throughout their career? Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like comparing awards will make this debate any more clear.

Joe Montana and Tom Brady have both won exactly three Super Bowl MVPs and two AP Most Valuable Player awards. Montana was named First-Team All-Pro three times and Brady has only been named First-Team All-Pro twice. However, Brady has been named to 10 Pro Bowl squads and Montana was invited to only eight Pro Bowls in his career.

Both were also named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s 1st Team All-Decade teams, Montana for the 1980s and Brady for the 2000s. What’s crazier is that Montana and Brady both won the AP Comeback Player of the Year award and Bert Bell Award (Player of the Year) once a piece. Brady did win the AP Offensive Player of the Year award twice, whereas Montana won that award just once.

Argument for Brady: N/A (too similar)

Advantage?

Draw, obviously. They are both highly decorated players and it’s far too close to give one an advantage over the other in the individual awards category. However, if Brady wins another major award that would put him over the top, but that is definitely easier said than done at his age (37).
