Green Bay Packers Defense year in review and grades

Cornerbacks – Green Bay lacks their own Richard Sherman or Darrelle Revis, but the cornerbacks get the job done with a consistent effort and impressive depth. Sam Shields, Tramon Williams and Casey Hayward played admirably while Davon House and Micah Hyde chipped in along the way.
The run game was often a better avenue for opponents, but the Packers cornerbacks avoided giving up a big game to opposing receivers not named Julio Jones. On the season, just three opposing receivers topped 100 yards.
Change could still be in order at the position, though, as Tramon Williams and Davon House are both set to hit the free agent market. With Randall Cobb and Bryan Bulaga set to hit the market themselves, Green Bay may need to pick and choose where they spend their 2015 cap.
The decision will hinge largely on Tramon Williams’ contract demands, and given that he is now on the wrong side of 30, Ted Thompson may choose to go younger at the position. Davon House has flashed some potential and I love his size, but he is still a relative unknown despite his experience. Don’t be surprised to see the Packers add another mid-to-late round corner in April.
2014 Grade: B+
Next: Finally, hope at the safety position
