The Carolina Panthers’ front office has been open about wanting to add one thing to this team – speed. Phillip Dorsett, out of the University of Miami, can provide exactly that.

He’s a rather small receiver and would need to work on going over the middle, but he brings a lot to the table in the meantime.

Just his presence alone will force defenses to play a little more honest, making them think twice about stacking the box. This would create space for Jonathan Stewart to run between the tackles. The Panthers haven’t had this type of speed threat since Ted Ginn Jr. left for Arizona, so it would certainly be welcomed.

Many of Dorsett’s weaknesses seem to be basic things that his speed has allowed him to get away with up until this point in his career. A good wide receivers coach could likely improve his fundamentals relatively significantly before next fall and Carolina just so happens to have a great one in Ricky Proehl.

With how deep this draft is at wide receiver, Dorsett could very well be available when Carolina is up to pick in the second round.
