10. Curly Lambeau, 1921-1953

The man with the most iconic stadium in the NFL named after him cracked this list as one of the best coaches in league history. He did so because he founded and helped build what is one of the NFL’s marquee franchises. Lambeau coached the Packers for their first 29 years of existence and coached for 33 years total (two years a piece with the Cardinals and “Redskins”). He led the Packers to six World Championships, including three in a row from 1929-1931. It was under his lead that Green Bay would first become known as “Titletown USA”.

Lambeau isn’t famous just for his longevity as a coach, but his consistency as well. He posted a .631 winning percentage over his 33 years (.688 with the Packers). His all-time playoff winning percentage was impressive, too at .600. In his 29 seasons in Green Bay his teams would post only three losing seasons. If that doesn’t scream elite head coach, then I am honestly not sure what does. Only one coach on this list has as many titles as him. However, he also played for the Packers in his early coaching days, too.

Earl Louis “Curly” Lambeau was a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s inaugural class in 1963. The Packers’ stadium will forever stand as a beacon of his success and he’ll always be considered one of the NFL’s first great coaches.
