Position: Safety

Height & Weight: 6’1″ & 208 pounds

2014 Season Statistics: 72 total tackles, 54 solo, 5.0 for loss, 4 interceptions, 11 passes defended

Beyond Landon Collins of the Alabama Crimson Tide, there aren’t many safeties worth discussing. Some have intriguing ability, but there are only a select few whose potential is star-caliber.

Kurtis Drummond of the Michigan State Spartans is one of those select few.

Drummond has good size at 6’1″ and 208 pounds, and is one of the best defensive playmakers in this draft class. Whether he’s breaking up passes or intercepting them, the First Team All-Big Ten star always seems to have his hand in on something.

Drummond’s physical ability was highlighted at the 2015 NFL Draft’s Scouting Combine.

That’s an important number for a player with exceptional ball skills.

Drummond is more of a finesse player than a run stopper or a hard-hitter, but that doesn’t change the fact that he possesses extraordinary value. He’s an Ed Reed type of safety in the sense that he’s willing to take risks; more times than not, he succeeds in doing so.

For a team with good cornerback play, Drummond would be a franchise-altering pick.
