Round 2: D.J. Humphries – OG/OT – Florida
The Dolphins could go in different directions in the second round; however, they will ultimately choose offense consecutively, as they continue to provide quarterback Ryan Tannehill with weapons.
But instead of surrounding him with someone to throw the ball to or hand it off to, the Dolphins will attempt to keep their franchise quarterback upright.
It is obvious that one plague the Dolphins have faced over the years has been the play from the offensive line. Two seasons ago they gave up a franchise record 58 sacks. In 2014, the group was better, but saw a variety of rotations, as they struggled to remain healthy.
D.J. Humphries is a good selection for the Dolphins because of his quickness and ability to start day one (at multiple positions as well). Humphries prides himself on his versatility, as he can play both guard or tackle at a high level. And although he needs to add some strength, Humphries excels in pass protection, something Miami could upgrade.
In Miami, Humphries could fill the current hole at the left guard position, as Daryn Colledge is a free agent and will most likely not return.
