Let’s begin the 2015 NFL Draft evaluation of Williams by looking at his stats while running the football at Texas A&M. Williams rushed for 560 yards this past season on just 81 carries for a 6.9 yards per carry average and seven touchdowns.

For his entire three-year career, Williams rushed for 1,343 yards and 18 touchdowns for 6.6 ypc average. As a sophomore in ’13, the running back totaled 407 yards on 58 carries for a 7.0 ypc average, and even as a freshman in ’12, he rushed for 376 yards on 65 carries (5.8 ypc).

At the combine in February, Williams had a time of 4.49 in the 40-yard dash with a 2.64 time in a 20-yard dash.

Just what type of player is Williams?

Chase Goodbread of College Football 24/7 (via NFL.com) wrote the following about Williams:

"“He was an explosive but underutilized option in the Texas A&M offense, never posting a 100-yard game this season but never receiving more than 13 carries in one, either.”"

That is something which is great about the prospects of Williams, but he’s a bit of a mystery when it comes to his NFL value. With the low number of carries he has with the Aggies, Williams could be a diamond in the rough, or he could be the type of player who could just be a RB best used in various situations.

It looks like he could be better than a seventh-round selection, as he’s projected to be, but with his skill set, he looks like he has the speed to play in the NFL and even could contribute to special teams as well.
