Number 4: Jake Long – Offensive Tackle

Hold up on the harsh comments, but the Miami Dolphins should bring back offensive tackle Jake Long. Long, who was the team’s first overall selection in the 2008 NFL Draft, went onto have a successful career donning the aqua and orange.

In his five seasons with Miami, Long was dominant, making the Pro Bowl four consecutive times while earning First-Team All-Pro honors in 2010.

However, in his final season with the Dolphins, Long’s production dropped off, resulting in Miami allowing the tackle to sign with the St. Louis Rams in the offseason of 2013. Unfortunately, Long suffered a torn ACL during the 2014 season for the second time in his career, and on the eve of this year’s free agency, he was subsequently released by the Rams.

Much like Long, the Dolphins continue to battle health issues on the offensive line, particularly the tackle position. Last season, starting left tackle Branden Albert suffered a knee injury, forcing a rotation of the offensive line, forcing Miami to promote inexperienced players such as Dallas Thomas.

Of course, bringing in an injury prone Long might not be the best fit if he himself has issues remaining healthy.

Still, Long has proved that when healthy, he can hold his own. Plus, after suffering another injury, he becomes a prime candidate for a cheap veteran offensive lineman pickup.

Of course, the starting position will still be in the hands of Albert; however, bringing in a former Pro Bowl caliber lineman on a cheap salary is something that could be beneficial to Miami.
