Worst: Losing His Starting Job To Derek Carr
The Raiders selected Schaub’s eventual replacement in the second round of the draft. What he probably did not expect was that he would be replaced before the end of the 2014 preseason. Schaub played poorly in his first three games with the Raiders and looked like the QB that got ran out of town in Houston.
He was indecisive with his throws and even threw an interception in his first game to continue his poor form. In three games, Schaub was 24-47 for 216 yards, no TDs, one INT, a fumble, and a QB rating of 55.1.
In contrast, Derek Carr was lighting up the scoreboard and looked mature and poised in the pocket. He finished the preseason going 30-45 for 326 yards, 4 TDs, 1 INT, and a QB rating of 108.1. He outplayed Matt Schaub in every sense of the word and convinced Raider Nation that he was the best QB on the team.
The fans started a campaign on Twitter using the hashtag #StartTheCarr and the Raiders front office could read the writing on the wall. The Matt Schaub experiment had failed before it even began and it was time to start the Derek Carr era in Oakland.
