Worst: Getting Booed Off The Field Against Buffalo

In the Oakland Raiders last home game of the season against the Buffalo Bills, Matt Schaub’s career in Oakland officially hit rock bottom. Late in the game as the Raiders were driving in Buffalo territory, Derek Carr took a hit and was slow to get up. The trainers were called on to the field and as per NFL rules Carr had to sit out a play.

It was then that I witnessed one of the most remarkable things I have ever seen in football. Matt Schaub stepped on to the field, presumably to hand the ball off to Latavius Murray, but he never got the chance. The home crowd went berserk and the boos rang down from every corner of the Oakland Coliseum. There was so much anger directed towards a player who had done absolutely nothing, both positive or negative, in a Raider uniform.

Cries of “get him off the field” and other not so wholesome phrases were shouted from the cheap seats to the Black Hole. The Raiders called a timeout and Derek Carr ran back on to the field to the cheers of the crowd and Schaub took off his helmet and grabbed his clipboard once again.
