LSU. Jalen Collins. 22. player. 55. With Dick LeBeau out of the picture and the Steelers looking to flood young talent back into their defense, this is a strange time in Pittsburgh. Cornerback is a position well worth addressing at this point, and in Jalen Collins there is a serious dice roll necessary, but the payout could be monumental.
Any team that selects Collins will be doing so largely based on projection, as the 6’1″, 205 pound cornerback started just 10 games in his career at LSU. He continued his rise up prospect ranking boards at the NFL Scouting Combine with a 4.48-second 40 yard dash time and impressive performances across the board, giving him a height/weight/speed threat that jumps off the page.

I trust Collins to cover vertical routes very early on because his speed and length will make it very difficult to get behind him, but his coverage of intricate routes has miles to go and a quality route-runner could eat him alive in his rookie year. If, or when, Collins does gain the experience in coverage to recognize these moves from wide receivers, his immediate burst could make him a lethal threat to undercut routes and create impact turnovers on defense. The ceiling with Collins is sky-high in the right hands.
. CB
