While inside linebacker may not be a massive immediate need, Derrick Johnson is not getting any younger, and the Chiefs need depth at the position anyway. Targeting one with upside in the later rounds of the draft would be wise.

Taiwan Jones is a big and bruising middle linebacker who always seems to be making an impact defensively.

At 6-foot-3, 245 pounds, Jones is a little bit bigger than most 3-4 inside linebackers, but he is a very explosive player who is very quick is small spaces. Jones plays the run game very well by attacking the ball carrier downhill, and bringing the force with a hit when he connects.

He is a very strong player who is very smart and prepared. His ability to react on the field does need improvement, but he does show the raw skills in that department.

Jones is a very physical player who will make an impact in the running game in the NFL. His lack of pure speed may hurt him some, but that can be covered up in a 3-4 defense. Ranging the width of the field is not Jones’ game, and he should never be put in that position to do so.

Jones is a traditional downhill linebacker, who will have success if he is allowed to do what he does best.
