19. Mike Singletary, MLB

  • Chicago Bears (1981-92)
  • 1985 and 1988 Defensive POY / 1985 Super Bowl Champion / 7-Time 1st Team All-Pro

The lone member to make this list of perhaps the greatest defensive unit ever assembled is Chicago Bears middle linebacker Mike Singletary.

There was no doubt he’d make the list. Where to fit him in was another story all together.

Winning the NFL Defensive Player of the Year twice, Singletary quickly established himself as one of the greatest defensive quarterbacks in league history.

The word to describe the man is “heart.” He was the fire behind Buddy Ryan’s 46, record setting defensive unit in 1985.

While he was undersized, and not chosen in the first round because of his smallish stature for the position, Singletary willed his way to the Hall of Fame.
